Ball State (7-22, 2-16 MAC) enters the tournament as the No. The Cardinals have been close in so many games down the stretch but have not been able to get over the hump. Their last regular season game, an overtime loss to Northern Illinois, illustrated that. Ball State had two looks at Bowling Green during the regular season.

The Cardinals led at halftime in Bowling Green before the Falcons rallied for a 58-46 win in January. Last month in Muncie, BG led wire-to-wire in a 79-65 win.

The teams have met four times previously in the MAC Tournament but not since 2005. The Falcons have won four of those previous tournament meetings. 10 Northern Illinois (14-15, 8-10 MAC) at No. 7 Akron (18-13, 9-9 MAC), 7 p.m.

Northern Illinois enters tonight's game with a 14-15 record and concluded MAC play with an 8-10 mark. The Huskies are 4-10 on the road this season, with all four wins coming in league play.

The Eagles are trying for their first three-game winning streak since MAC play began.

This is just the second time Miami has been the No. 9 seed in the MAC Tournament. The RedHawks were the No. 9 seed in the 2000 MAC Tournament, the tournament’s first year in Cleveland, advancing to the championship game where they were edged by a mere three points by Ball State.

Coincidentally, Miami started its MAC Tournament run that season in Ypsilianti, Mich., against EMU, pulling out a 64-51 first-round win.The RedHawks are 6-1 in MAC Tournament first-round games. 11 Ohio (10-19, 5-13 MAC) at No. 6 Western Michigan (19-12, 10-8 MAC), 8 p.m. The Broncos have won each of the last three meetings between the two teams, including an 80-69 win at University Arena earlier this season. The Broncos have won at least one MAC Tournament game in each of the last five seasons, and have not failed to play at least one game in Cleveland in every year under head coach Steve Hawkins. Since Steve Hawkins became the head coach of the Broncos at the start of the 2003-04 season, University Arena has been a nightmare road trip for visiting teams, especially conference foes. Overall, the Broncos are 131-33 (.799) against opponents in Kalamazoo under Hawkins, including a 80-21 (.792) mark against conference opposition and a 51-12 (.810) record against non-conference opponents.

OPENING TIP. BGSU and Ball State will meet for the 82nd time in series history on Saturday afternoon. BGSU has won seven of the last eight contests. BGSU leads the all-time series, 46-35. Ball State won the only game between the two schools last year by a score of 72-64. The game was played at the Stroh Center on Feb. The Orange and Brown have won three-straight games at Worthen Arena, and last lost in Muncie on Feb.

BGSU is 0-6 on the road in 2016-17, and has lost its last three road games by a combined nine points. The Falcons have lost six away games by single digits, while losing three road contests by a single possession. With one three-pointer, will move into 10th place all-time on the program's three-point field goals list. Over his last six games, is averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds. HUGER'S THOUGHTS ON BALL STATE 'I am proud of the effort we gave at Akron, but at the end of the day, we did not win the game, and winning is the only thing that matters when that game clock hits zero. Next up is Ball State, who is another one of the premier teams in the MAC this season.

I expect our guys to go into this game with the same level of energy, focus and attention that they did for Akron. Defensively, we will need to do a great job on their shooters and their two talented big men in House and Moses.

Offensively, I have liked the shared production we have been getting and I expect that to continue each and every game. From the time we get on the bus to go to Muncie, to the time we load the bus to return to BGSU, everyone in our program needs to be locked in on what we need to do to get a tough road MAC win. Every game is going to be a battle from here on out and the tougher team will almost always win in this league.' SCOUTING THE BALL STATE CARDINALS Ball State dropped its MAC opener on Tuesday night at Kent State by a score of 100-90. The Cardinals will head into Saturday afternoon's game with an overall record of 9-5 (0-1 MAC). BSU was picked to finish second in the MAC West this season after an encouraging 21-14 mark in 2015-16 that saw the Cardinals clinch a share of the regular-season title in the MAC West. All five of Ball State's starters are averaging over 9.0 points per game, while sophomore guard Tayler Persons leads the team in points (15.0), assists (5.2) and steals (1.7).

Senior forward Franko House has been one of the better players in the conference for the past few years, and ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.5 points. Sophomore center Trey Moses is the other half of BSU's front court, and he's averaging 9.6 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds.

Ball State is shooting a very-prolific 38.3 percent from downtown, and averaging 9.1 triples per ballgame. Fourth-year head coach James Whitford owns a record of 33-62. A BGSU WIN WOULD.

Move the Falcons to 6-8 on the season. Even BGSU's MAC record at 1-1. Give the Falcons their first road win of the 2016-17 season. Be 's first win over Ball State. Give BG its eighth win over Ball State in the last nine contests. Bump BGSU's winning streak at Worthen Arena up to four games.

Increase the Orange and Brown's lead in the all-time series to 47-35 DENNY DINES ON BALL STATE, a native of Germantown, Ohio, which is about 90 minutes away from Worthen Arena, has always played well against Ball State. In four games, including three starts, Denny is averaging 17.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists against the Cardinals. Denny is also shooting a combined 23-of-40 (57.5 percent) in games versus Ball State. In his only game at Worthen Arena (Feb. 14, 2015), Denny scored 18 points, and registered six rebounds and two assists.

Two of Denny's nine double-doubles in his career have come against BSU. In last season's game (Feb. 2, 2016), he had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

In his first-ever game against the Cardinals (Jan. 17, 2015), Denny posted 17 points and 10 rebounds, and in a MAC Tournament victory at the Stroh Center on March 9, 2015, Denny scored 16 points off the bench, while adding five rebounds and three assists. THE TOUGHEST WEEK-ONE SCHEDULE IN THE MAC Bowling Green will wrap up the first week of conference play this Saturday (Jan. 7) at Ball State. On paper, the Falcons will have had arguably the toughest week-one schedule in the conference. BGSU opened the MAC slate with an 89-84 defeat at Akron (11-3) on Jan. Along with being the predicted MAC Tournament champion, the Zips have now beaten the Falcons 17-straight times.

Ball State is off to a 9-5 start and was picked to finish second in the MAC West. When looking at the combined records of first-week opponents across the league, no team will play two opponents that have more combined wins than Akron and Ball State. The Zips and Cardinals currently have a combined record of 20-8. Western Michigan played at Ohio (9-3) on Tuesday and will play at Akron this weekend, while Kent State also had a tough draw having to face Ball State at home and Ohio on the road. ALL FIVE FALCON STARTERS SCORE IN DOUBLE DIGITS IN MAC OPENER Bowling Green played a heck of a road game at Akron on Jan. BGSU shot a season-high 54.1 percent from the field, and twice narrowed double-digit deficits to a single possession.

Furthermore, all five of BGSU's starters – (21), (16), (16), (16) and (10) – scored in double figures, marking the first time that has happened since Dec. For Wiggins, his point total established a new career high, while Ali's 16 points was a season high. But in the end, Akron escaped with an 89-84 victory. The Zips shot 56.6 percent from the floor and a ridiculous 45.5 percent from downtown on 22 three-point attempts. BIG MAJ CONTINUES STELLAR SEASON WITH BIG NIGHT AGAINST THE ZIPS Sophomore, while going against First Team All-MAC selection Isaiah Johnson, had the best game of his young career on Tuesday (Jan. 3) in the MAC opener at Akron. BG's big man scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting, and also added eight rebounds.

Wiggins is having an incredible stretch of games. Heading into the Akron game, Wiggins had recorded a double-double in consecutive games, and in three out of BGSU's last five games.

When you add in the Akron contest, Wiggins is averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds across the last six contests. Over that six-game stretch, he's shooting 48.1 percent from the field. After averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds as a freshman last season, Wiggins is up to 10.2 points and 7.5 rebounds in 2016-17.

IN A GOOD WAY, ALI WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AT AKRON Senior guard had possibly the best game of his career on Tuesday (Jan. In 25 minutes of play, the senior had a season-high 16 points, and added five assists, five steals and four rebounds. The five steals marked a new career high.

Ali went 6-for-9 from the floor, and tied his season high for field goals made with six. The South Hayward, California native, who averaged 5.4 points in his first season as a Falcon in 2015-16, bumped his scoring average up to 6.6 points.

Ali has now scored in double figures four times this season, and in each game, he's also recorded at least five assists. WINNING TEAMS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO BOWLING GREEN'S ROAD WOES The Falcons are 0-6 on the road in 2016-17. Although five of those losses have been by single digits, four of them have been by two possessions or less, and the last three defeats have been by a combined nine points, the Falcons' opponents deserve a large amount of credit for BGSU's struggles away from home. Bowling Green has played six really difficult road games. In fact, all six of BGSU's opponents on the road – Oakland (12-3), South Dakota (11-7), Cincinnati (12-2), Evansville (10-6), San Jose State (7-6), and Akron (11-3) – own winning records. The six opponents, five of which have won 10-plus games already, have a combined record of 63-27.

Zips Head To Muncie, Ind. For Mac

Furthermore, BGSU's next four road opponents – Ball State (9-5), Toledo (8-6), Central Michigan (10-4) and Kent State (9-5) – all have winning records. As of now, the Falcons are on track to play their first team with a losing record on Feb, 14, when the team travels to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan. If that holds up, it will have been 95 days into the 2016-17 season. FALCONS HAVE WON SIX-STRAIGHT AT THE STROH BGSU earned its sixth-consecutive win at the Stroh Center by defeating Norfolk State by a score of 86-77 on Dec. 30 to move to 6-2 at home this season. Along with the Norfolk State win, Bowling Green has knocked off Murray State (Nov.

21), Morgan State (Nov. 26), Notre Dame College (Nov. 29), Detroit Mercy (Dec. 10) and Alabama A&M (Dec. Bowling Green last lost a home game on Nov.

20, which is well over a month ago. Over the six-game winning streak, the Orange and Brown have been winning games by an average of 15.7 points. The Falcons have scored an average points 81.3 points, while holding opponents to an average of 65.6 points. Opponents are shooting a combined 39.2 percent from the field, and an anemic 29.3 percent from three-point range in Bowling Green's last six games played at the Stroh Center. MORE SCORING IN HUGER'S SECOND SEASON In head coach 's first season at the helm of his alma mater, BGSU finished the year scoring 70.6 points per game. Through 14 games of the 2016-17 season, the Falcons are up to 74.4 points per contest.

Even more encouraging is the fact that the Falcons are shooting 42.9 percent after shooting at a 44.4 percent clip last year. With some more efficient shooting, BG's production could continue to rise.

Head

Furthermore, with over half the season to go, the Orange and Brown have already scored 80-plus points four times, after hitting the 80-point mark eight times in 2016-17. FINISHING THE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE OUT STRONG Bowling Green finished its non-conference schedule with a pair of home wins over Alabama A&M (Dec. 22) and Norfolk State (Dec. The two victories allowed the Falcons to finish the out-of-conference slate with a 6-7 record. In the Norfolk State win, the Falcons shot 65.2 percent in the second half, and scored 50 points. In the victory over Alabama A&M, BGSU closed the first half on a 13-2 run to take an eight-point lead into the break, and never looked back. The two victories improved BGSU's non-conference record under second-year head coach to a solid 17-12.

DENNY NEEDS ONE MORE TRIPLE TO JOIN BGSU'S THREE-POINT FRATERNITY Bowling Green's three-point fraternity will have a new member very, very soon. Senior guard has made 122 three-point field goals in his career, and is just one triple shy surpassing Jordon Crawford (2009-13) for 10th most all-time.

Denny, who has made at least one three-pointer in each of the last 11 games, made 50 triples in 2014-15 and 52 bombs in 2015-16. If he were to make 50 more three-pointers this season, Denny would finish his career ranked sixth all-time in made three-point field goals. For his career, Denny is shooting 37.1 percent from downtown. ALCEGAIRE AVERAGING 14.5 POINTS OVER LAST EIGHT GAMES Senior forward has scored 10-plus points in seven of the last eight games, and is averaging 14.5 points over that stretch.

Additionally, the senior is shooting a silly 53.1 percent (43-of-81) from the floor across the eight-game span. Alcegaire leads the 2016-17 Falcons in scoring (13.1), field goal percentage (49.6 percent), total field goals (69), and three-point field goals (22). He's averaging 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

The Miami, Florida native has been BG's most efficient scorer, as well. He's shot at least 50.0 percent in nine games this season, including each of the last four ballgames. Prior to Tuesday (Jan. 3) night's 10-point outing at Akron, he had scored 15-plus points in six of the previous seven contests. LILLARD LIGHTING IT UP AS OF LATE After a relatively quiet stretch of games, sophomore guard has been making an impact in a variety of ways over the last four contests. In BG's most-recent game at Akron (Jan.

3), he scored 16 points, which is the most that he's scored since the third game of the season, on 5-of-7 shooting while also adding two assists. In the two games prior, he stuffed the stat sheet. In a win over Norfolk State (Dec. 30), he went 4-for-5 from the field, and finished with nine points, four assists and three rebounds.

And in a victory over Alabama A&M (Dec. 22), his final line read: seven points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. He shot 3-fo-6 that night, and also shot 3-of-6 and recorded eight points with four rebounds and two steals at San Jose State (Dec.

Lillard, after a slow start, has shot the three-ball at a significantly higher rate. Over the last six games, he's bumped his average up to 33.3 percent by making 6-of-9 attempts. ALI RANKED FIRST IN THE MAC IN ASSIST-TO-TURNOVER RATIO Heading into the weekend, senior guard ranks first in the Mid-American Conference with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. Ali has 69 assists compared to 28 turnovers.

Last season, Ali finished with a 1.8 ratio after racking up 130 assists and committing 73 turnovers. Additionally, the senior sits third in the MAC in assists per game with 5.3. He's had 10 games with at least five assists, including seven games with at least six assists. Ali has had a pair of seven-assist games at San Jose State (Dec. 18) and versus Morgan State (Nov. 26), and dished out a season-high nine assists on Nov.

29 in a win over Notre Dame College. WIGGINS CONTINUES TO 'BEAT THE RIM' Heading into the offseason, free throw shooting, among other aspects, was a huge focus for sophomore forward. Tried to get Wiggins to narrow his focus, and reminded the sophomore that the only obstacle in his way was the rim. Huger constantly told his player to 'beat the rim.' This season, Wiggins is experiencing one of the biggest turnarounds from the free throw line in college basketball history.

After shooting 37.9 percent (22-of-58) in 2015-16, the Toledo native is, incredibly, up to 73.6 percent (53-of-72) in 2016-17. He's made eight-plus free throws in three games this year, including a pair of 9-for-10 contests. Wiggins, despite having shot just 14 more free throws, has made 31 more free throws this season. ZACK 'DOUBLE-FIGURE' DENNY Although his streak of scoring 10-plus points ended at 10-consecutive games in Bowling Green's 86-77 victory over Norfolk State on Dec. 30, Denny has taken his offensive game up a notch in 2016-17. After averaging 10.6 points as a junior, 9.2 points as a sophomore and 3.3 points as a freshman, Denny currently sits second on the team in scoring, as he's averaging 12.3 points per game. Along with fellow senior, Denny is the only other Falcon averaging double digits this season.

For his career, the senior has had 44 double-digit nights, and he's now 152 points shy of becoming the 44th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. The Germantown, Ohio native has scored at least 10 points in 12 of Bowling Green's 14 contests this season. FRYE AVERAGING 11.0 POINTS AND SHOOTING 50.0% OVER LAST FIVE GAMES Over the last five ballgames, freshman guard is averaging 11.0 points and shooting 50.0 percent (20-of-40) from the field. He's also shooting 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from downtown over that five-game stretch. Although he scored nine points in BGSU's most-recent home game against Norfolk State (Dec. 30), prior to that, Frye scored 10-plus points in three-consecutive games for the first time in his career.

The young sharp shooter dropped a career-high 18 on Detroit Mercy (Dec. 10), and then scored 10 points at San Jose State (Dec. 18) and 16 points versus Alabama A&M (Dec. Frye leads the Bowling Green bench in both scoring (7.4) and minutes (19.2).

Frye is shooting 45.7 percent from the field, and 43.9 percent from three-point range downtown. He's up to 70.6 percent at the line after making his last five attempts.

#DeepFrye To put things mildly, freshman guard is shooting the three-ball at a downright silly clip, especially over Bowling Green's last 10 games. Over that current 10-game stretch, Frye is 18-for-37 (48.6 percent) from deep. He has made at least one triple in eight of those 10 games, and is shooting 43.9 percent (18-for-41) from downtown for the season. The Pembroke Pines, Florida native hit four triples against Alabama A&M (Dec.

22, which marked the second time in three games that he made four three-pointers, as he went an identical 4-for-7 from deep versus Detroit Mercy on Dec. Frye connected on 3-of-4 triples in the Falcons' victory over Morgan State (Nov. 26) earlier in the season. The freshman has hit multiple three-balls in five games this season, and has shot at least 50.0 percent from three-point land in a total of six contests. JUSTIN TURNER'S CAREER NIGHT AGAINST NORFOLK STATE After missing the first 11 games of the season with a lower body injury, freshman guard returned to the floor against Alabama A&M on Dec.

He scored five points on 2-of-3 shooting in 12 minutes. In the Falcons' next game, Turner doubled his minutes and doubled his production, as he scored a career-high 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting. He also recorded the first assist and steal of his career.

Turner pulled down two rebounds in each of his first two games as a Falcon. CALDWELL TIES HIS CAREER HIGH WITH 13 POINTS VERSUS NORFOLK STATE Freshman guard found his scoring touch at the end of non-conference play. Caldwell has had three double-digit scoring nights, and all three of them came over BGSU's last five games of the non-conference slate. The freshman tied his career high against Norfolk State (Dec. 30) with 13 points.

He was 4-for-7 from the field, had four assists, zero turnovers, three rebounds and one steal. Earlier in December, Caldwell had back-to-night nights with 10-plus points, as he scored 10 at Evansville (Dec. 6) and 13 versus Detroit Mercy (Dec. In 17.6 minutes per game, Caldwell is averaging 5.9 points, 1.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds. WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY? Junior guard, who was put on scholarship just hours before BGSU's win over Murray State (Nov. 21), has adapted well to his increased role this season.

The guard, who virtually guards power forwards every time he's on the floor, does more than just shoot threes. However, three-point shooting has been Fox's calling card since arriving on campus, and he's been very effective this season from downtown. Fox has hit a three in eight of Bowling Green's last 10 games. Over that 10-game stretch, Fox is 12-for-22 (55.4 percent) from downtown.

The Maumee, Ohio native has hit at least two triples in four games this season, while also having a 4-for-7 game from three-point land versus Morgan State (Nov. THE BGSU SPLASH BROTHERS Bowling Green has five players on the 2016-17 roster that have made 12-plus attempts from three-point range this season. As a team, BGSU is shooting 36.8 percent from downtown. This high mark is due largely in part to five payers. Bowling Green's Splash Brothers – (22-of-60; 36.7 percent), (18-of-41; 43.9 percent), (17-of-55; 30.9 percent), (16-of-37; 43.2 percent), and (12-of-36; 33.3 percent) – have combined to make a total of 85 triples. Collectively, they are shooting 37.1 percent from deep (85-of-229). FALCONS REGISTER WIN NO.

50 AT THE STROH CENTER Bowling Green's 90-58 win over Morgan State (Nov. 26) marked the program's 50th victory at the Stroh Center. The Falcons now own an overall record of 54-33 at the Stroh Center, which opened for the 2011-12 season. The Orange and Brown have won 11-plus games in three seasons at the Stroh, as BGSU went 12-4 in the facility's inaugural season, prior to finishing 11-5 in 2012-13, and 11-6 in 2014-15. BGSU owns a.621 winning percentage at the Stroh Center. YEAR TWO OF THE MICHAEL HUGER ERA After guiding the Falcons to a 16-18 record last season, head coach has begun his second season at the helm of his alma mater.

Huger has brought some needed stability to the program, as the 2016-17 season will mark the first time that the Falcons will have a head coach for back-to-back seasons since 2013-14. The former Falcon guard will look to build off an exciting run at last year's MAC Tournament. The Orange and Brown defeated both Kent State and Central Michigan, two team's that beat BGSU twice during the regular season, to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2009. FALCONS INK FOUR DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD On the eve of the college basketball season (Nov.

10), Bowling Green announced the signing of four future student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Nelly Cummings (Midland, Pa. / Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School), Joniya Gadson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / Dillard High School), Derek Koch (West Salem, Ohio / Northwestern High School) and Daeqwon Plowden (Philadelphia, Pa. / Mastery Charter North School) are set to join the program for the 2017-18 season.

More information can be found at BGSUFalcons.com. #BGinItaly Due largely in part to Bill Frack's extreme generosity, financial commitment and unwavering support towards the men's basketball program, the team went on an 11-day cultural immersion tour in Italy from Aug.

The program spent days in Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan and Lake Como, and saw some of the most famous landmarks in Italian history. The Falcons traveled to The Vatican, spent time inside the Roman Colosseum, visited the Ferrari Museum and saw the famous gondolas in Venice, among many other stops, which included Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

The Orange and Brown also played four games, and accumulated a 3-1 record while playing professional and national competitio.
