I wanted this primarily as a backup computer and for traveling and I didn't expect too much from it. I was really surprised, it's actually a very nice computer. I'm not an expert, I kind of stumble around on the computer figuring things out by trial and error. This is my first experience using a laptop. I basically didn't have to do anything to set it up, I plugged it in, turned it on, connected to the internet and it did it's thing setting itself up. A far cry from my desktop which took me about 2 hours to set up. This didn't come with a bunch of nuisance advertizing that you so often find on lower priced computers.

Less than 10 minutes after I plugged it in I was ready to go. I was very impressed with the screen, the wallpaper pic that was provided was stunning but I wanted to make sure other things looked good too, I went to YouTube and watched some videos. This is were it really impressed me, I was able to watch videos in the highest HD setting with no lag time or buffering. My desk top which is supposed to be better can't do that, in fact I can't watch anything in HD on my desktop because of buffering. The computer people kept telling me it was my connection. Now I know the connection is fine because not only did videos play perfectly but I checked out some movie and TV episodes, they all had fantastic streaming play. The one negative with this is the speakers, the speakers aren't very good, they're kind of tinny sounding but the sound was great on my headphones.

The other thing I noticed is, in order to view the best picture you have to have the screen set at the perfect viewing angle for your eyes, in other words you don't get the best view from any angle. I suspect it might be made this way on purpose so you have a little more privacy in public but I'm not certain, it doesn't say in the manual. I was also worried about this Windows 8 thing, I'd heard a lot of complaints and that it was difficult to use or people just didn't like it. I don't see a problem with it, basic operation is pretty much the same, it has a new guide with pics and icons for different functions and doing different jobs. I kind of like it, it seemed to make sense to me how it worked. I think if you have a tablet or smart phone you will make the transition easily enough. Like many other companies, they no longer print out a manual, you have to download it to read it.

I'm old fashioned I want a physical manual to read. What if you have problems and you can't get into the computer to view the manual? Another frustrating thing about the manual is it's not specific for this device, something else that is common with many online manuals.

There are too many places in the manual where it says 'This option may not be available on your model' How do I know if it's available or not if the manual doesn't tell me? For example it talks about external speakers and that some of the laptops have Bluetooth technology and some of them don't. Just how am I supposed to figure out if my laptop has Bluetooth or not? I think the company should have the responsibility to tell me what is included in my laptop and what is not included. My last complaint about the manual is it is very technical, it's not easy for a computer newbie to understand. Many of the directions are not very clear.

There is this called 'Charms' which pops onto the left side of your screen when you put your cursor in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Well, that's what the directions say. I put my cursor into the corner of the screen and nothing happens. I have to move it around until I finally hit the right spot then the 'Charms' pop up. The 'Charms' are a set of icons that help you locate things like search your computer, settings, share, devices and windows but there is also a Windows icon in the task bar. I'm not sure if this is the computer not being sensitive enough or if I'm just not doing it the right way.

I'd rather just have an icon to click on to get the 'Charms' to pop up or have them in the task bar. I think it has a very nice keyboard, it's a little smaller than a normal sized keyboard but not much. It also has a 10 key pad which I really like, when I'm working with numbers it's so much easier for me to use the 10 key pad than the numbers above the letters.

Personally I wouldn't want a keyboard that didn't have this option. There are also some video keys above the keypad so you can skip back or forward, pause, adjust volume or mute. I really like this feature, they're easy to see and use, it's much easier than trying to move the cursor to the right spot and click. I was not very impressed with the cam, it works, you can use it for video chatting, taking pics or movies but the quality isn't that great. The pic was pretty grainy but it did work really well in low light situations.

This isn't a big deal for me. I hardly use the cam option, in fact I haven't had a cam for my desktop in about 2 years. I did expect the picture to be a higher quality. I would recommend this laptop, the negatives I feel about it are pretty minor and might not even be a problem for most people. If you're computer literate you'll have no problem, if you're like me, there will be a small period of experimentation and learning.

All in all I'm impressed with the operation of the laptop especially considering the price. It seems to perform above and beyond.

I think it's quite a bargain what you get and how it performs. I'm almost tempted to make this my main computer and use my desktop as backup. I think this would make a great beginner laptop for a young person or for someone like me who isn't too proficient. It also performs well enough that someone more experienced should be happy with it especially if they're on a budget. I know I said it before but for this price I'm really quite impressed with the performance. I haven't had this laptop long; it was ordered as an emergency backup. So far I'm using it more than my older expensive Dell.

That one ran about 2k. Windows 8.1 was new for me and it took a bit getting used to compared to Windows 7. The laptop itself is super lightweight so it's easy to carry around.

Its graphics seem almost 3D in the DVD player. Overall, it's user intuitive and I'd buy another one without hesitation. The competing Dell (price wise) to this one doesn't come with a DVD/CD player so I cancelled that order and re-ordered this one. I brought this after hearing many views about it longevity, and all of its features. After having been through 2 HP laptops in less than two years.

I thought well maybe Toshiba would be different. I give this two stars because all the screws came apart from the back. This was in only about 6 months or less. I only noticed that my screws were gone once by hinges broke one day and I flipped it over to realize it wasn't just one screw it was all of them that were gone. I must include that I used this laptop almost everyday and I'm a college student.

I didn't get a chance to use any of the apps included or anything else. It would have been great product if it didn't fall apart so quickly. So on November 17th I bought this laptop with the bundle (printer, laptop case and flash-drive) I wanted something inexpensive but good enough to play candy crush or small Facebook games. I looked at the reviews on YouTube, Google and everywhere and they had little to no reviews because it is a newer laptop but the few they did have they said it was a great laptop.

I got what I deserved by going cheaper and that's not saying its bad or good. I at first was in denial that my computer was new and needed more time to load pages just because it was the page or because my WiFi was bad, nope, the laptop is a bit slow for being brand new. It literally lags on YouTube videos and frustrates me to no end trying to play basic games like candy crush, solitaire etc. It is a great laptop for someone who doesn't watch videos, play games or wont get peeved that it takes a little longer for things like Facebook to load. I have thought about returning it but honestly, if I did and bought a different one in this price range I bet it wont be any better so i'm okay with this very basic, internet surfing only, laptop. If I could do it allover and look up reviews I might try to find one in this price range that has better video and game quality. If you want this laptop it isnt a bad laptop by any means, Im keeping it right?

It just isnt what I thought it was going to be and I want everyone who like me, loves games and videos to know this is not your laptop. Btw, Besides not having a cable to hookup the hp printer in the bundle, the hp printer is fabulous! Lol I hope I helped! Unit worked fine out of the box for about 60 days. Thought this was a good computer for the $$. After approx 60 days of very minimal use by my elderly mother, Several of the keys on the keyboard quit working.

After 30 days it can not be returned to Walmart, the extended warranty does not cover it since it is still under Toshibas warranty, and I have been working with Toshiba for several days trying to diagnose the issue. I now have to ship the computer back to Toshiba at' MY COST' using their box for a cost of $29.99 to ship a faulty computer back to them. They will diagnose and then let me know what they decide to do. Not a fan of Walmart products already. And Now Toshiba is failing miserably. If you are looking for a light duty machine that will handle most of your everyday tasks, this lower end unit will not disappoint you. To be sure it is not as robust as more expensive models.

The keyboard is large and easy to use but is not designed to take abuse. The screen is bright and adjustable. Was not happy with the mouse pad and installed a wireless mouse almost immediately (very easy to do). Computing speed is acceptable and the WIFI set up was only a few key strokes.

All in all you get what you pay for and this unit does it's job very well. This is by far the worst laptop i've ever bought. Do your self a favor before you buy this laptop google search ' toshiba laptop green screen while playing videos' there are thousands of customers (including myself) complaining about this laptop and toshiba is not honoring the warranty.

My laptop is only a week old and is already malfunctioning by no fault of my own. It actually started two days after i received the laptop. This laptop does not stay connected to wifi and does not recognize ethernet cords. Everyday there is an update that takes about two hours to finish which is really inconvient. The mouse pad is malfunctioning and sometimes wont work at all. Now i would say mabe i messed up the computer some how but i only had it a week and have that time was spent on the phone with toshiba complaining. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP!!!!
