I agree that something odd is going on, and part of it is that the Nikon phone support people don't tell or know the whole story. When I try to install View NX2 on my El Capitan iMac, the install hangs in a very repeatable way. Possibly the install program has been altered recently, to steer people to NXI. When I did the NX I install, everything went well, and the program runs in a competent and swift manner.
My motivation for wanting something, is that the Nikon software seems to be the best way for me to display the exact settings I used (for Picture Control, etc) for images from my Nikon camera. Other photo editing/viewing products don't seem to do that.
