I have been on the Dallas or LA server. I do not often check the email address it is associated with, but did so today and found 6 or 7 DCMA Violation notices going back to February. The torrents had already been removed, as I removed them once uTorrent shows that my upload ratio for a given file is “1.0” or greater. While its not line rate for me, its decent and without logging should now keep me more anonymous. Nothing is 100% in this world but every layer helps get you closer. I signed up for a premium account directly without even trying the free service as I was sure it would work having heard it advertised on the TWIT network. Speed is awful regardless of where I connect from. Basic browsing is possible but download of files or watching video is impossible.
I have logged a number of support tickets, none of which got answered. I’m now thinking what on earth did I pay my money to them for. I also wrote to TWIT and showed them the unanswered tickets, but they didn’t do anything and they are still an advertiser on the network. As a result I now boycot twit as well!

It certainly is true that the speeds suck from most servers (only about 3Mbps or thereabouts) when compared to my full Fibre speed of 10Mbps, but the upload and download speeds from the Singapore server are generally what I would get from my standard, non-VPN connection. Well, it sucks every so often, but then again, so does the non-VPN connection. Like others posting here, I heard of them through TWIT (SecurityNow podcast). The selling point for me was that they advertised during the signup process that they support up to gigabit speeds. Now, I didn’t need that much, but that made be feel as though I would get a good 80-90% of my 60 Mbps DL connection (6-9 Mbps UL). Signup process was easy. Download process was easy. Connection process was easy. So, on all the points above, no problems.
But when I tested my connection speed using speedtest.net, I was finding that I was getting limited to a mere 9-11 Mbps DL w/ OpenVPN TCP and UDP (6-7 Mbps UL). PPTP was down in the 2-3 Mbps range with DL and UL. This was unreasonable to me. I opened a support ticket.
They did reply within 24 hours with some suggestions. First, use Google DNS servers (not sure how DNS would affect the speed of an established connection).
I tried this, no impact (didn’t expect any). They suggested trying different options (TCP, UDP, PPTP, OpenVPN, etc.). No impact (other than PPTP being worse, despite the protocol theoretically supposed to be faster). I tried it from my work connection, and saw the same limits. When raw connection gets 30-40Mbps up and down, both up and down were seeing 9-11 Mbps limits when connected via VPN. They didn’t have a VPN server where our egress is located, so I picked the nearest geographical one. I also used the same speedtest.net server (in NY) for both VPN and non-VPN tests, to keep the tests more comparable.

Anyway they don’t seem to have much to suggest. So, I tried privateinternetaccess VPN (saw fairly good review on this site). Night and Day!! Sign up and setup was just as easy.
But the speeds were fantastic! I was getting 56 Mbps DL over VPN out of my 60 Mbps raw connection. This has been consistent now for the past 24 hours. Still no additional suggestions from proXPN. I will be canceling before my 7-day trial period expires. They will need to refund my card, as I see they already charged my credit card (not unreasonable practice, but would be nicer if they waited the 7-day trial period first). Anyway overall, my experiences were not as bad as some.
Support was reasonably response (12-24 hour response times). But their speeds are pathetic if you happen to have a good connection yourself. If you’re running from connections that are only 10 Mbps and below, you may not be affected by this. But after realizing that the newer service I signed up for was cheaper, had more VPN locations, and was much faster I would certainly recommend them over proXPN.
Like others, I’ll write TWIT to let them know that their advertiser’s service is really sub-par and that they have misleading advertisement of “up to 1000 Mbps”, which I don’t think they can substantiate and seems completely false based on those who have reported good speed metrics. My recommendation: Pass on proXPN. So far proXPN has been stellar for me. Used the Slack lifetime deal for 39 bucks.
I’ve used the service on Linux, iPhones, and Windows 10 devices with no issues. In fact, the Windows client caused a massive blue screen with the TAP driver for OpenVPN and within 4 hours, proXPN had a release candidate emailed to me that resolved the issue. Regarding speeds, I have a 100mbps connection and using speedof.me, my speed degraded to 35mbps which is awesome for VPN. Also they do offer the vastly superior UDP protocol. If you have issues on Linux, there is a bash proXPN client (3rd party) that works great. Great support, awesome performance are two reasons to get proXPN.
I saw all the bad reviews from up above and had to post mine. I think the bad reviews are old and from a period when Proxpn was not taking good care of it’s service. I had them for over 6 months and have nothing but praise for this this VPN. Speed is nothing but great, i get 70 + Mb on Xfinity home internet. I haven’t seen the disconnect issue some people share they have, it runs smoothly 24/7.
